Concert Review: The Gamechanger’s Tour 3/12

Arriving at the Worcester Palladium last Saturday night was nothing short of hectic. Regardless of the fact that The Gamechanger’s Tour itself was completely sold out, another large concert was apparently being held at the DCU center around the corner, making the surrounding area entirely crowded with people heading every which way. Outside the venue entrance, kids stood huddled in groups trying to keep warm as they awaited the lineup for the night: Pierce the Veil, We Came As Romans, Bring Me The Horizon, and A Day To Remember. As usual the line to get inside the venue was out the door, continuing down the side of the entire building and then some. Once inside, it was neglected to be mentioned beforehand that only the first hundred or so people to arrive at the show were going to be given “floor” wristbands, allowing these lucky fans down to the pit area of the venue. The rest of the 1500+ concertgoers were restricted to the back part of the venue as well as the balcony which, needless to say, made for a large quantity of unhappy fans. Post-hardcore act Pierce the Veil was the opening band of the tour, kicking off the show with lights up on their drummer as he took the stage solo playing a killer beat. When the rest of the band ran on stage to join him, they jumped into a brief cover of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” to get the crowd amped up before diving into “Besitos”, the title track off their 2010 album Selfish Machines. Pierce the Veil’s high energy and enthusiasm spread like wildfire throughout the venue, intriguing the crowd with the use of strobe lights and flashing red sirens sporadically throughout their set.
