Matt & Kim with Oberhofer

November 20, 2012 in Shows by Zack

For as simple of a name as Matt & Kim, these two musicians can put on one hell of a show.  This Brooklyn based duo nearly brought the House of Blues down on November 16th with just a drum set and a keyboard, something other bands should aspire to do.

Opening for Matt & Kim was the band Oberhofer, made up of Brad Oberhofer, Matthew Scheiner, Ben Roth, Pete Sustarsic, and Dylan Treleven, who I actually got the chance to interview before the show.

Favorite Concert Experience?

Matt:
I actually went to a Mooney Suzuki show a few years ago, and that was really neat.  They know how to put on a great show and I was really blown away by their energy, something that I try to incorporate into my playing every time.

Greatest Musical Influences?

Brad: Well I mean there is one now.  (pointing to a picture of Jimi Hendrix painted on the Green Room wall)  I really feel like his music speaks to me more than others and I try to emulate his creativity in my guitar playing and my vocal abilities as well.

Funniest Concert Moment?

Ben:There was this one time that Matt, I think, made an interviewer cry.  She was so nervous and unprepared, so Matt got frustrated and he sort of snapped at her with answers ultimately making her cry.  Yeah, that was a sad and yet very funny moment.  (Everyone laughs)

Favorite Song to Play Live?

Brad: It is constantly changing.  One song you loved to play one night is the one you dread the next.  I just like playing my music in the moment and I constantly want to keep it fresh to myself and others.

Words to Aspiring Musicians?

Brad:  Write a lot and practice a lot more.  There is always something to write about even when it seems like there isn’t.
