Tegan and Sara – Heartthrob

While Heartthrob lacks complex lyrics and diverges from Tegan and Sara’s indie roots, the overtly pop album is constantly upbeat and has powerful, passionate moments. A portion of the album is a brilliant blend of evocative, compelling vocals and upbeat synth heavy pop beats.” With “Drove Me Wild”, “How Come You Don’t Want Me”, and “Now I’m All Messed Up, Tegan and Sara have created meaningful, catchy pop songs. Unfortunately, other tracks on Heartthrob lack allure. “I’m Not Your Hero” and “Love They Say” are nothing more than typical, repetitive pop songs. The other five songs contain enough originality to provide an enjoyable listening experience. While they contribute to the cohesiveness of the album, they are not stand-alone songs. On Heartthrob, Tegan and Sara have created an extensive array of pop songs, some filled with ingenuity and others with unoriginality.
