Declan McKenna stays cool for a hot, sunny set

Declan McKenna made his way to the Blue Stage on May 27 to perform at Boston Calling. In the midst of starting his North American tour, he made a stop to deliver a performance at the music festival for the first time. He began with one of his many fun, catchy singles “British Bombs,” and the crowd instantly roared for him and his band. They made sure to return the love with powerful vocals and bouncy dance moves.

He continued the set with an older single, “Paracetamol,” but his fans came prepared to shout the lyrics at the top of their lungs. Later, McKenna continued to perform tracks from his debut album What Do You Think About the Car? such as “Why Do You Feel So Down?” and “Make Me Your Queen.” As personal favorites of mine and others, it was an unforgettable moment to sing along to each one. McKenna also included plenty of tracks from his sophomore album Zeros, such as “My House,” “Beautiful Faces,” “Twice Your Size,” and “The Key to Life on Earth.” It was a perfect mix of new and old singles for fans to sing along to.

That hot, sunny day, McKenna made sure to remind everyone to wear sun cream – a genuine gesture that reflected his kind hearted character. Later, he finished up the set with his recurring hit single,” “Brazil.” The crowd excitedly screamed in excitement as the guitar riff introduced the track. McKenna and the crowd repeated the well-known chorus towards the end of the song. It left everyone overjoyed and embracing an experience to be remembered.
