Raveena Aurora is a New York bred Indian-American vocalist who channels the ethereal with her soft, jazzy vocals. With dream-like energy and R&B roots, Raveena tells stories of love, lust, and femininity in her new EP Shanti, or, ‘Peace’ in Sanskrit. Within her discography, full of what NPR describes as “Motown-era babymakers,” Raveena not only creates a space for pillow talk, but also explores the limitations that categorical expectations carry, both in genre and in race. By finding freedom, however, in these dueling attributes, each melody sung or piano chord struck carries a proud statement and understanding of self that reverberates through and through – the outcome is becoming in a ‘Nora Jones meets Frank Ocean’ sort of way.
Beyond her performance at this year’s annual Block Party, Raveena will also be performing at Camp Flog Gnaw, an annual festival curated and hosted by Tyler the Creator, later this year. Playing alongside the likes of Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi and Tyler the Creator himself, Raveena’s aspirations are clear, and we’re excited to see what’s in store.
Can’t swing a ticket to Camp Flog Gnaw? Catch Raveena at WRBB’s Block Party 2018 alongside Saba and Miike on September 7th.
