Rochelle Jordan Busts Through the Wall at Paradise Rock Club

On March 23, 2026, Rochelle Jordan graced fans with her presence at Boston’s legendary Paradise Rock Club. The venue has hosted hundreds of emerging artists — including some of the most influential of their time — such as Muddy Waters, Talking Heads, and Rage Against The Machine. The esteemed venue’s reputation certainly precedes it, and Jordan undoubtedly adds to the lineup of trailblazing artists.

Jordan, a London native raised in Toronto, has been in the game for over a decade. Today, she is finally getting her recognition. But her ascent to fame has been a long time coming. Her first album, 1021, released in 2014, was originally recorded in her bedroom, resulting in a tumultuous record deal following its release. Her most recent album, Through The Wall, released in September 2025, feels like a culminating point in her career. The album's title holds profound significance, referring to letting go of self-doubt and fear to overcome the walls of her mind and step into her own power. After many years of battles within the industry, with executives frequently refusing to believe in or understand her vision, she was forced to take matters into her own hands. Interestingly enough, this moment is when the world began catching up. Through The Wall’s visual and sonic elements hold the energetic flair and groove of the ‘80s, integrating a futuristic sound with its synths and snares. Rochelle’s knack for experimentation has been consistent throughout all her work, exploring a multitude of sounds and genres from alternative R&B and dance-pop to house, UK garage, and electronic soul. Collaborating with artists such as Kaytranada, Kelela, and DāM-FunK, she’s built up an impressive repertoire of music that makes you, simply put, want to bust a move.

In the crowded quarters of Paradise, it was expected that the crowd was ready to step out and hit the dance floor. Upon entering the room, I was met with a lively atmosphere, where everyone dressed stylishly and radiated high spirits. Among the vibrant crowd, I recognized the faces of several local Boston-based DJs, such as PROSWERVEZ, ADELAIDE, and CHRISTINATHESAINTT. Immediately, I knew this was the place to be.

As the lights dimmed, Rochelle’s opener, DJ Chrysalis, started us off hot, mixing a range of genres, including house, R&B, and Brazilian funk — integrating artists such as FKA Twigs, Kelela, Faith Evans, and Chanel Tres. The set had the entire room moving, offering the perfect prelude for what was to come.

As Jordan hit the stage, a sea of red light sticks illuminated her path, and cheers erupted from the audience. Her voluminous curls were on full display (a la Donna Summer) as she donned a fitted white button-down and black bottoms, complemented by a large belt, that evoked the exaggerated silhouettes and office wear of the ‘80s. She made it a point to welcome us, ensuring that, regardless of what was going on in the world, this was a safe place to let loose and dance.

Kicking us into the album's opening track, "Grace," her lush vocals filled the room, a brief pause before launching us into the buzz and boom of house melodies in tracks "TTW" and "Ladida." The minimalistic stage design enabled her to move through the set with ease. As she migrated across the stage, energizing the audience, we obeyed her orders; singing and dancing along with conviction.

As the lights' colors pulsated to the rhythm, the crowd gushed with enthusiasm over the album's most popular hits, including "Doing It Too," "On 2 Something," and "Bite the Bait." The audience gained momentum on the dance floor during the last stretch of tracks, moving into dance circles that flowed energetically as the lights washed over them. After her final song, she walked off stage and had the crowd endlessly clapping and shouting for an encore. A couple of riotous cheers later, she came back out and performed arguably her biggest hit, “Dancing Elephants,” from her 2021 album Play With The Changes.

When she walked off the stage for good, the fluorescent overhead lights turned on, and there was an earnest satisfaction in nearly every person’s face. The coat check line grew as guests prepared to head home, buzzing from the experience we all collectively shared. The thematic weight of this album certainly resonated with its audience. In some ways, it invites you to break free from your own self-imposed limitations, to let go and surrender. Bust a move, or simply bust through the barrier.

Rochelle Jordan has proved that she is here to stay by continuously upholding her commitment to herself and her vision. She has, indeed, busted through the wall.
